Thank you for doing research in this very important area. This is a trend that needs to be examined closely. Most therapists rely on old thinking regarding self injury in teens and do not understand the gateway effect. I have quietly prayed for more research and understanding of this as our son suffered the exact chain of events 4 years ago as a freshman in college. It was a challenging time for our son and the rest of the family. He has rebounded and is graduating from Bates this May, but I wouldn't wish that kind of pain on any parent or child in the future. Please keep up the good work...
