Andy Turner appointed New York State 4-H leader

Andrew Turner has been appointed to the position of State Leader for the 4-H Youth Development Program, starting August 1, 2014. Mr. Turner has been serving as the interim 4-H State Leader since January 2014, after the departure of Dr. Valerie Adams-Bass from Cornell, who held the position for two years. Turner began his tenure at Cornell in 2012, as an Assistant Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension(CCE), after a 23-year career with CCE as an educator in 4-H Youth Development, Natural Resources and Executive Director in Greene and Columbia Counties.

The State 4-H Leader works with a team of seven specialist and support staff located in the BCTR and in close partnership with the Director of Cooperative Extension in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Mr. Turner grew up in the small town of Leicester in Livingston County, New York and was a 4-H member as a child, attributing his later career interest in environmental science to his experiences in 4-H. Turner attained his Bachelors and Masters degree from Cornell, both in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. He is currently a candidate for a Doctorate in Executive Leadership from the Ralph C. Wilson School of Education at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY.
