2013 4-H Career Explorations brings over 600 to campus

4-H's Career Explorations is a three-day event that provides youth with exposure to academic fields to develop leadership skills, provide hands-on experience in a college setting, and introduce them to Cornell University. The event is made up of two grade specific tracts: University U for youth entering grades 8 - 9 and Focus for Teens for youth entering grades 10-12.

This June 25-27, over 610 youth, educators, and chaperones attended Career Explorations from 45 counties, including a large delegation from Philadelphia. The Focus for Teens workshops ranged from Food Science and DNA, The Science Behind Good Soils, Activewear Advantage, Permaculture, and Molecular Biology and Genetics to more traditional programming like Careers in the Horse Industry, Dairy Career Focus, Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries, and Vet Science Discovery.

The University U program included a panel discussion, campus tours, and programs at the Cornell Plantations, Johnson Museum of Art, Math Department, and Boyce Thompson Institute.

This year, for the first time, Career Explorations welcomed 60 Samsung Scholars who received full-scholarships to attend.
